3My name is Matthew and my partner is Mary “Ace”. Ace is an expert seamstress with a real passion for sewing and performing complex alterations. To practice her craft, Ace opened a business in 2013 she aptly named Sew & Sew here in Asheville NC. We had a chance meeting on Facebook when I was researching the possibility of making high quality, comfortably fashionable face masks people would actually want to wear.
I own and operate a third party logistics company that also specializes in contract textile cutting with our Gerber 2500 cutting table. Similar to a CNC machine, the 3500 can quickly and accurately cut out patterns in mass quantities creating significant efficiencies in the textile manufacturing process. I was going to leverage the capabilities of this machine for my own mask making venture, until I happened upon a local ad on Facebook Marketplace, where a friend was selling Ace’s hand crafted masks as a side business. I was intrigued by the materials used, fit and finish and attention to detail, and thought wow this is precisely my vision! Learning that Ace produced over 5000 masks BY HAND within just a few months for local COVID 19 relief efforts meant that I had to meet her! The friend gave me Ace’s contact information, and upon reaching out Ace agreed to a meeting. I had no clue whether she’d actually follow through – she doesn’t drive! But within just a few days, she took the initiative to firm up a meeting. Ace came to my facility, saw my operation, and from there we hit the ground running. We are definitely cut from the same cloth! Driven by a keen sense of what was missing in the mask market, we make a great team designing and producing high quality stylish face masks!
